Congratulations to Our New President!

A Very Warm Welcome to Nicky Fisher.

Born and bred in Eastbourne, Nicky Fisher is passionate about the town and keen to see it thrive. Having been a member of Eastbourne unLtd Chamber of Commerce for years and Vice President since 2019, Nicky is looking forward to supporting Eastbourne businesses as the Chamber president.

‘I am delighted to take over the role of president from Richard – he will be a very hard act to follow and I wish to thank him for all his hard work and effort over the past two years.’

We share Nicky’s thoughts and thank Richard for everything he has done as Chamber President, especially during what has been a very difficult year with the COVID outbreak.

When Nicky set up her insolvency practice with Chris Herron in 2006, they opened an office in Eastbourne and rented a small room from a solicitor. In 2010, they bought their current offices in Seaside to ensure a larger and more permanent base within the town.

Nicky says, ‘I am really looking forward to representing the town that I love. It has been a challenging time for all of us over the past months and as a tourist town we are especially hard hit. I am keen to see the town come out of the pandemic in a better shape than it went in.’

She continues, ‘Whilst we are still in uncertain times, these are also exciting times for the town and I am delighted to be leading an excellent board of local business people to help move the town forward to come out of this bigger, better and bolder.’

Nicky is currently Deputy Vice President of R3, the UK insolvency and restructuring trade body, which represents insolvency practitioners, lawyers, turnaround and restructuring experts, students, and others in the profession. She became R3's Deputy Vice President in May of this year after serving on its Council since 2018, and will become the organisation's President in 2022.

As part of her role as Deputy Vice President, Nicky sits on R3's Executive Committee, helping shape the strategy and day to day running of the organisation and its work on behalf of its members. She also supports R3's media and public affairs activities, which help to explain to politicians, the media and the general public, the value and scope of its members' work to rescue businesses and jobs, help individuals to resolve financial distress, and recover value for creditors. This work also sees R3 campaign for progressive changes to the UK's insolvency and restructuring framework to support the profession's positive role in the economy.

Recent examples of this work include R3's engagement with the Government and parliamentarians on the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act, and R3's efforts to prevent a change in HMRC's status as a creditor in insolvencies which could damage business rescue and access to finance. These campaigns led to a number of stories in the national, local and trade media, meetings with MPs, Peers and stakeholders, and numerous mentions of the profession's views during debates in the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

Nicky, we are delighted that you have agreed to be our President and we are looking forward to continuing to work closely with you to support Eastbourne as it emerges from lockdown.
