Beware of scams!

The City of London Police fraud team has warned of an ‘extremely sophisticated scam’ going about this week, involving all banks.

Recipients are sent a text message, which appears to be from their bank. The message states an attempted payment hasn’t been successful. Such texts quote credible transactions taken by, for example, O2, Vodafone, 3, GiffGaff or EE and asking them to click a link.

Clicking the link enables fraudsters to harvest your details and, in turn, gain access to your money.

Be vigilant.

Your bank will never send hyperlinks by text message, so never click through links via text that claim to be from your bank. To be safe, never click any links sent to you by phone or email, if you don't like the look of them.

If it doesn't look right, it probably isn’t right!

Another scam that we have been made aware of, sadly involves our members.

Several businesses in the Chamber have received emails offering to share our contacts for a fee. Firstly, we would never offer to do so. Secondly, the company offering to, is doing so illegally, and only wants your money. Thirdly, if you would like the contact details for any of our members, just take a look in our members directory!

Again, be vigilant. The Chamber never sends out communications via third parties and any email from us will be from an @eastbournechamber.co.uk email address.

If it doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t right!
